I am Stephanie Kelly, a self-taught artist born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. My journey as an artist began in 2018 during a period of transition in my life. As I searched for a new direction, I began experimenting with acrylic painting—and what started as an exploration quickly became a powerful way to express my emotions, experiences, and discoveries.

Today, I call Queens, New York, home. My art is an expression of my story and a reflection of who I am and who I am becoming. Through vibrant color, expressive lines, and layered forms, I create work inspired by African, African American, and Black art, with Black women often at the center of my work.

My paintings celebrate beauty, strength, intelligence, and worth. They are also a way for me to see and embrace myself.

I believe God directs my brushstrokes. Just as I show up to a blank canvas and allow a painting to unfold, I show up for life and trust the process.

It is about becoming.


It is about trusting what is unfolding, even when I cannot yet see the finished picture.
